Description of the Municipality

(Kapodistrias plan) Kalloni, Mantamadou, Agia Paraskevi Lesvos, Eressos-Adisis, Polihnitos, Petra Lesvos and Mithymna. The municipality was established according to a decision of the Ministry of Interior on 25 February 2019 and came from the split of the pre-existing Municipality of Lesvos.

the tourism sector, with the main production sectors being olive oil production, livestock farming, fisheries, tourism, geothermal energy and renewable energy in general. Petra, Molyvos, Vatera, Eresos, are among the most emblematic towns of the new municipality that receive the largest volume of tourists in the summer season. However, there are also strong productive centres in the other areas of the municipality.

The 350 milk producers of Lesvos are active in the region, managing about 7,000 tonnes of milk and recently joined forces to form 8 Milk Producers Groups. There are also very active women’s cooperatives in the area, such as those of Mesotopos and Parakila, which produce traditional dishes that are sold on the Greek market. All these villages where the cooperatives are located belong to the municipality of West Lesvos.

The mayor of the municipality is Taxiarchis Verros.
